Home Safety Experiences
I have spent a lot of time speaking about home security with many homeowners. I am attempting to get some insight on the different ways that our homes can be threatened. One of the questions I asked them was if they had ever experienced any suspicious activity at their home. A burglary, a broken window, a suspicious individual – whatever. Almost every single person had a story. Many of the stories eventually led them to purchase a home security system. I have been told that Security in Lake Forest is a choice that people people have gone with.
One gentleman said that he had been home for the afternoon one day, but left to pick his little boy up from basketball practice. After they returned roughly 20 minutes later, one of his windows was shattered and a few things were missing from inside. He seemed to think he had been watched, and the burglar knew when he left. A different mother of three explained that she once answered the door to a man who claimed to be a salesman. After he pitched his sale, he asked if he could come inside to talk it over with her. She said no thank you, and the man replied by asking if he could still come inside to use her telephone. Since the man was being so persistent, she again declined and shut the door.
We have all had our encounters with shady situations and people. Some are worse than others, like the first man’s experience. The information I am getting helps me determine what motivates people to get a burglar alarm. The second woman said she quickly elected to get one the very next day.
I have learned about many comparable stories from other families. People never truly know what is going to happen on a given day. I am confident these two people did not wake up that morning thinking something unusual would happen that day. It definitely stresses the value in always being prepared.
